Back in December 2017, I found out that I had passed my ABIM board certification exam for critical care medicine. I created this video on youtube for those who are interested in learning about the methodologies I pursued to be able to pass this challenging exam. Needless to say, it was the most challenging board exam I have taken. Below is the link to the YouTube video. Thanks for following along.
I personally found this exam to be more challenging than the ABIM Internal Medicine board examination that I had taken two years prior and was still fresh in my mind. The ABIM Critical care exam had a lot of esoteric questions in it. Those who are also going to be boarded in pulmonary medicine will certainly have an easier experience of the exam. I can’t specify why because I am not supposed to divulge any details, but I am certain that they will.
Test Day: ABIM Critical Care
The exam takes place over the course of one day at one of those Prometric testing sites. If you’re taking this exam, you’re well aware of what it’s like to sit for one of these day-long exams. It’s not fun. Make sure to plan out your meals ahead of time so that you don’t take a break that’s too long. I personally found a Chick-Fil-A because that tends to be my go-to comfort food for exams. They always get the order right. I completed the exam with time to spare because I am a fast test-taker. Either you know it or you don’t. I do not harp on a question for too long. I’d rather knock out the questions I do know and move forward. That’s my style and it has gotten me this far. Hope this video helps!
